The National Assisted Living Risk Retention Group was created specifically for assisted living facilities as the result of pro-active participation of NCALTCF members. It is an alternative to the traditional insurance market. Since the year 2000, Insurance companies have increased standard premiums to a level that is unaffordable to the average facility. The NALRRG combines low limits; stream-lined, state of the art processing; pre- and post-incident risk management and aggressive claims management as a way to manage costs and keep coverage affordable.
To qualify, North Carolina applicants must be members of the NCALTCF; must become shareholders of the Risk Retention Group at a rate of $35 per bed, and must meet certain underwriting criteria. The RRG provides general and professional liability limits of $100,000 for an individual claim and $300,000 as an annual limit for all claims per facility. While these limits are lower than traditional insurance carriers promote, the RRG provides superior claims management and all claims are aggressively defended.
Most facilities choose to apply via a computerized application process that is quick and easy. Additional support is provided by the RRG’s agent, Ann Cranford at the Cranford Agency. From the very start of the process, no facility that wants coverage is left without access or support for this most important financial transaction.
The members of the NALRRG have been visionary in their approach to seeking solutions to their insurance dilemma. While the product is currently available in North Carolina, it is the Company’s plan to expand its scope to serving assisted living facilities in other states.
