This Activity Professional Training Program will help the providers comply with rule 10A NCAC 13F.0404, which requires that “…the activity professional hired on or after July 1, 2005 shall have completed or complete, within nine months of employment or assignment to the position, the basic activity course for assisted living activity directors offered by community colleges or a comparable activity course as determined by the Department based on instructional hours and content.”
Note: A person with a degree in recreational administration or a related field already meets this requirement, or is certified by the National Certification Council for Activity Professionals (NCCAP) as does a person who completed the long-term care activity coordinator course of 48 hours or more through a community college before July 2, 2005.
This course has been designed to minimize your time away from your professional and personal life. It is a hybrid course, meaning that you will spend 36 hours in a classroom and then the remaining 18 hours will be online. You must have access to a computer for the online portion of the course. You do have a choice of online chat times each week. You must attend one chat during the chat weeks.
Classroom days are in Burlington, NC on the following dates:

Thursday, October 7 and Friday, October 8, 2010
Thursday, December 9 and Friday, December 10, 2010.
Classroom time is 10:30am to 5:15pm.

The Primary Instructors will be Kathy Wright Moore, LRT/CTRS, ACC, Executive Director of COAP and Dawn Chourouk (Appler), ADC/EDU/MC,CDP, President of COAP. A “team” of professionals has been assembled that will teach segments of the course. All of the “team” members are certified by NCCAP and have completed the “train the trainer” for the community college state approved activity training course.

DIRECTIONS: Just off 1-40/85 at Exit 145. Traveling east towards Raleigh, take a left at the end of the 145 exit ramp. Traveling west towards Greensboro, take a right at the end of the 145 exit ramp. Go through the first stop light and turn right into the Quality Inn driveway (located directly behind The Waffle House.)
Need an overnight room?
We have negotiated a special overnight room rate of $59.99 + 6.45 sales tax = $66.44 per night, per room. When reserving your room, please mention COAP, to receive the special rate. You are responsible for making your own hotel reservation and paying for your room. A breakfast comes with your overnight room.
Special Note: IF you need to cancel your hotel room, you need to do so by 4pm the day of arrival to avoid being charged for your room.
The course fee is $375.00 per person.
This fee is less than $7.00 a credit hour!
All fees include your lunch on each classroom date, textbook, supplies, which you will receive at the first class meeting, and a certificate of completion.
We do have an installment plan for registration fees. When you preregister you must pay $200.00. This fee will reserve your space in the class. Then the balance of $175.00 is due when you attend the first class in September class.
The class will be limited to 40 students on a first come, first served basis.
